Formula: CGPA = Sum of (Grade Points × Credit Hours) / Total Credit Hours 

Example:

• Total Credit Hours: 12
• Total Weighted Points: 41
• CGPA: 41 ÷ 12 = 3.41

Weighted vs Unweighted CGPA

Unweighted CGPA does not discriminate between courses- be it gym or advanced calculus, an A will carry the same weight. Conversely, a weighted CGPA assigns a higher weight to more difficult courses such as AP, IB or honours. 

This distinction is important since some schools or scholarships use the weighted version to reward students taking more challenging courses. Where others simply use the unweighted version to maintain norms.

Initially, it would have appeared that a high CGPA would ensure a high rank in the class that supposition could not hold. One student was ranked 12th in the batch with a CGPA of 3.6. The calculator may provide you with an inaccurate result in case your school has its own system. Never forget to check with your official academic records. 

Tips to Improve Your CGPA

You do not need to change your CGPA in one day, but being organized is a big help. Begin by planning your deadlines, exams and assignments with a planner. In this manner, you will not have to experience the last-minute rush and keep up with the workload.

Know that not every course is equal. It is best to focus more on those with higher credit value which they affect your GPA more than the others, so it is prudent to give them priority first.

You must not attempt to do everything yourself when you get stuck. Form a study group, ask questions and should there be a need, do not hesitate to employ a tutor. Seeking assistance is not a sign of weakness it is a plan.
